SPRINGFIELD, MO., Nov. 15, 2022 – Drury University is now accepting applications for its Law Enforcement Academy. The 750-hour basic training academy, offered on Drury’s Springfield campus, will begin classes on Jan. 17, 2023, and run until graduation on July 13. The deadline to apply is Jan 1.

“All across the country law enforcement agencies are experiencing a shortage of officers,” said Law Enforcement Academy Director Tony Bowers. “That is no exception in our area. There are job opportunities all over the region and at Drury, recruits will receive the best training to fill those vacancies to protect and serve their communities.”

The Drury Law Enforcement Academy is certified by the Missouri Department of Public Safety and meets the state of Missouri’s training requirement for Class A certification for peace officers. Recruits will be trained on the proper usage and procedure for firearms, defensive tactics, de-escalation, driving, crime scene processing and more.

Approximately 95% of Drury graduates are recruited at regional law enforcement agencies. Many have gone on to work for Branson, Ozark, Nixa, Willard, Bolivar, Strafford and Battlefield police departments as well as Taney, Christian, Polk, Greene, Webster and Stone County sheriff’s offices.

In addition to traditional grants accessed through completing a FAFSA, there are several funding sources available to assist eligible students in covering the costs of the academy. These include the Missouri Blue Scholarship, which awards up to $5,000, and the Missouri Fast Track grant which could cover the entire tuition for eligible students.

Those interested in applying or who would like more information should contact Bowers at tbowers@drury.edu or (417) 873- 7542.
