SPRINGFIELD, MO., April 16, 2024 – The community is invited to Drury University’s largest academic celebration of the year at the third annual Fusion Day. On April 24 students will spend the day showcasing their original research, scholarship or creative work.
The event will kick off on the evening of Tuesday, April 23, with Drury alumnus and country music singer, Matt Stell ’06. Stell will speak about how a Drury education allowed him to pursue an enriching career in music. His talk will take place in the Judy Thompson Executive Conference Center at 7:00 p.m.
Fusion Day will begin on April 24 with Certificate Capstone Panels, followed by a talk with Drury alumna Karen Williams ’85. Williams, a retired US Ambassador, served in US national security and foreign affairs, specializing in military operations, counter-terrorism and public diplomacy. She was the U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Suriname and the first Foreign Policy Advisor to the Chief of Space Operations at the Pentagon.
The day will feature a full day of student showcases and culminate with keynote speaker Olga E. Custodio. Custodio is a Retired Captain from American Airlines and her achievements are truly remarkable. She was the first Hispanic female to graduate from USAF Undergraduate Pilot Training, graduating in the top 5%, and has received numerous awards for her exceptional airmanship and leadership, including being recognized as the first Latina pilot inducted into the San Antonio Aviation and Aerospace Hall of Fame. Her talk will take place on April 24 in the Judy Thompson Executive Conference Center at 6:00 p.m.
