Springfield, Mo., August 6, 2024 – Drury University is pleased to provide the 2024-2025 Drury Alternative Track in Special Education (DATSE) Scholarship to an educator in Owensville and three Title 1 Grants to three dedicated local educators, helping them further their education and continue their impactful work in the community: Two educators are from Pipkin Middle School, and the other educator works at Bingham Elementary School. These scholarships, funded through the Drury College of Graduate Studies, highlight the university’s ongoing commitment to supporting the professional development of local educators.

“It is exciting to see Drury alum and local educators be awarded this grant that aligns so well with the vision of the School of Education & Child Development at Drury, said Dr. Natalie Precise, Dean of the School of Education & Child Development at Drury University.” Our vision states that we are a collaborative learning environment committed to excellence in teaching and learning to transform local and global communities. Collaboration with SPS Title 1 schools also shows our commitment to preparing teachers to educate the whole child, encompassing academics, emotional intelligence, and overall well-being.”

DATSE Rural Schools Scholarship:

Drury University’s School of Education and Child Development in collaboration with the College of Graduate Studies supports rural Missouri schools in staffing special education classrooms with qualified teachers through the DATSE. This online master’s program allows candidates to continue working in their current positions while learning evidence-based practices aligned with state and national standards. Upon completing the DATSE program, candidates receive a Master’s in Education and initial certification in Mild/Moderate Cross-Categorical K-12 Special Education. A $1,500 scholarship is available for the first academic year, applied in two increments, to newly admitted students who meet specific requirements and are employed as paraprofessionals in rural Missouri school districts. Applications for the program and scholarship must be submitted by July 1, with scholarships awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Drury and Partner School Alliance Grant:

Drury University’s School of Education and Child Development draws inspiration from Dr. James Comer’s Yale School Development Program, emphasizing the holistic education of children. The university maintains strong partnerships with local schools. It offers a tuition remission grant to eligible Master in Education (M.Ed.) students working in Title I schools in Springfield. This grant provides a 50% reduction in tuition for up to 12 credit hours per year for three years, applicable only to degree courses. Eligible applicants must be fully admitted to the M.Ed. program, in good standing, and employed full-time at a Title I school. Awardees are expected to remain employed at the Title I school for two years after completing their degree and to participate in presentations for Drury’s School of Education and Child Development. Applications for the limited grants are due by July 1 each year, with funds awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.

The application form can be found at drury.edu/graduate/education-masters/tuition-remission-opportunity/title-i-school-partner-application/.
