Springfield, MO., April 19, 2024 – Drury University is proud to announce that alumna Megan Parsley ’23 has been chosen by the Hellenic-American Educational Foundation and Fulbright to represent the United States as a Fulbright Scholar at Athens College, a prestigious private K-12 school in Greece. Megan Parsley’s selection is a testament to her outstanding academic achievements, professional accomplishments, and demonstrated leadership potential. A former student of Drury University, Megan’s journey to Greece is a culmination of her passion for education, history, and cultural exploration.
“I knew I was meant to be a teacher, for I’ve always made such impactful and long-lasting relationships with fellow educators and students,” Megan said. “When I studied abroad in Greece in the summer of 2022, I felt I’d return and immerse myself in the country. The opportunity to assist in teaching English in Greece would be an absolute honor and a privilege for my passions for teaching and Greek culture would infuse together all while representing Drury University and the US.”
With a Middle School History Education degree and valuable experience teaching at the Pipkin IB school locally, Megan impressed the Fulbright committee with her dedication and expertise. In addition to her academic and professional qualifications, the committee noted her ability to design Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with diverse learning styles. Her appointment at Athens College presents a remarkable opportunity to significantly impact students’ lives and contribute to the school’s educational program.
The Fulbright Program, sponsored by the U.S. government, aims to foster mutual understanding between the people of the United States and those of other countries through educational exchange. Recipients of Fulbright grants are selected based on their academic excellence, professional achievements, and leadership potential. Megan applied for the Fulbright through Drury’s Office of National Scholarships and Fulbright Adviser, Dr. Shelley Wolbrink. Drury extends its gratitude to the staff and faculty mentors who provided invaluable support to Megan throughout her journey, including Drs. Natalie Precise, Ginny Norton, Mike Verney, and Laurie Edmonson.
Megan’s Fulbright grant covers airfare and travel expenses while providing a monthly stipend for the 9–12-month term, with an estimated value ranging from $20,000 to $35,000. Her selection adds to Drury University’s proud tradition of producing globally engaged scholars and leaders.
Two other Drury students, Jack Corp ’23 and Destany L’Heureux ’23, currently represent the university as Fulbright finalists in Taiwan and Ferrol, Spain, respectively.
