Virtual Humanities & Water Symposium marks 50th anniversary of Earth Day

SPRINGFIELD, Mo., April 22, 2019 — A planned symposium blending the study of the humanities and the 50thanniversary of Earth Day will go on in a virtual fashion. The public is welcome to join the “Humanities and Water” symposium today and tomorrow organized by the Missouri Humanities Council (MHC) and the Humanities and Ethics Center at Drury.

Streamed presentations by expert speakers will take place via Zoom. Participants in the virtual symposium will learn how water tells the story of the Ozarks region – politically, culturally, environmentally, and spiritually.

“Water plays a role in virtually every human experience, and our speakers will get us to think more deeply about the intersections of water and art, religion, culture, the environment, and even economics,” says Dr. Katie Gilbert, director of the HEC and program consultant for the MHC.  “We hope that people will join us online to learn more while celebrating the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, and we look forward to gathering in person again at Drury for the 2021 Symposium.”
