Lori Hutton, M.Ed.

Instructor of Music/Director of Jazz

Ms. Hutton joined the Drury University Faculty in August of 2022 as Director of Jazz Studies. She currently oversees the Jazz Studies Program as well as teaching Music Education courses. She holds both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Drury University in Music and Secondary Education.

Ms. Hutton spent 25 years teaching instrumental music with the last 20 years as Director of Bands in the Marshfield school district. Prior to her appointment at Drury, she spent two years as the Interim Director of Instrumental Studies at Southwest Baptist University. Ms. Hutton served as secretary for the Missouri Association for Jazz Education for ten years. She has also served as South Central Missouri Music Educators Association Band Vice President, Junior High District Vice President and Jazz Band District Vice President. She currently serves as Past-President for the Phi Beta Mu Honorary Band Fraternity.

She is the recipient of the 2004 and 2018 Marshfield Teacher of the Year Award, was awarded the John East Spirit of Orpheus Mentor Award by her colleagues. She has been nominated for Grammy Teacher awards. She also received the “Strong Teacher of the Year” by the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce and was a nominee for the Drury University Distinguished Alumni Award.

Hutton was the Jazz Band Director for the Missouri Ambassadors of Music directing and performing in England, France, Switzerland, Austria and Germany taking jazz groups to Europe for over 20 years. She now spends her summer in Switzerland working with high school music groups facilitating tours and performances.

She maintains an active schedule as a conductor/clinician in several states, loves spending time with her family and traveling the world.
