Items Needed for Move-In Day

  • Box cutter
  • Trash bags
  • Tools: rubber mallet, socket set, crescent wrench, screwdrivers
  • Notepad and pencil

Residence Hall Move-In Checklist 

Bedroom

  • XL Twin sheet set, pillow(s), bedspread
  • Personal computer, power strip with extra long cord & surge protector, Ethernet cord
  • Alarm clock
  • Wastebasket and plastic liners
  • Favorite books and/or movies
  • Reading lamp, floor lamp (halogen lamps are considered fire hazards
  • Flashlight
  • Batteries

Bathroom Items

  • Bath towels, hand towels, bath rug, washcloths
  • Toiletries including soap dish, toothbrush and toothbrush holder, tissues, hand soap, toilet paper, shower caddy, personal items
  • Prescribed medications & your prescription if needed for refill, health-related items
  • First aid kit
  • Bathrobe
  • Hair dryer

School Supplies

  • Envelopes, writing paper, stamps
  • Paper, pen, etc.
  • Stapler, scissors, hole punch, etc.
  • Backpack or book bag
  • Technology supplies (flash drives, etc.) 

Storage Solutions

  • Storage shelves
  • Under-bed bins (Sunderland and Wallace only)
  • Shoe rack
  • Pictures, frames, posters, etc.
    • NOTE: Only 3M Command adhesive hangers are allowed
  • Clothes hangers
  • Bulletin board & thumbtacks

Food Fundamentals

  • Microwavable dishes, utensils, drinking cups, napkins, etc. (micro fridge provided)
  • Snacks, drinks, etc
  • Chip clips
  • Can opener

Laundry and Cleaning Supplies

  • HE approved laundry detergent/softener  
  • laundry bags or basket
  • Iron (ironing board provided in laundry room)
  • Cleaning supplies including toilet and bathtub cleaner, glass cleaner, furniture polish, etc
  • Small vacuum, broom and dustpan
  • Dish soap for hand-washing dishes

What Items Should I Consider Bringing? 

  • Season-appropriate clothing (switch out during breaks if possible)
  • Personal computer
  • Umbrella, rain gear

Personal Items

  • Checkbook, debit card
  • Social security card (in case you want to get a job)
  • Current insurance card or two-sided copy from parent’s plan covering student
  • Small sewing and tool kits
  • Wastebasket and trash bags

Items You Should Discuss with Your Roommate Before Purchasing 

  • Carpet or rugs, curtains
  • Television with QAM tuner
  • DVD/Blu-ray player
  • Video game console
  • Message board for door
  • Cooking appliances approved for use:
    • Toasters (NOT toaster ovens)
    • Coffee makers
    • Rice steamers
    • Air popcorn poppers
    • Sunderland residents may bring an additional mini fridge up to 4.3 cubic feet.
    • All appliances must be UL approved.

Items You Should Not Bring Which Are Subject to Confiscation/Judicial Sanctions

  • Unapproved materials for hanging including scotch, duct, electrical or masking tape; gum type adhesive; tacks, nails and staples; anything else that may damage walls
  • Materials to build to a loft in your room
  • Additional refrigerators in Smith Hall (provided for you)
  • Microwaves in any residence hall (provided for you)
  • Couches
  • Extension cords
  • Candles/incense (even if you do not intend to burn them)
  • Pets other than fish are not permitted. Service animals are permitted with prior approval from the Housing Office.
  • Alcohol/decorated alcoholic containers or alcohol paraphernalia
  • Weapons (including air-soft or pellet guns)
  • ANY cooking appliances not listed as approved above. These include, but are not limited to: toaster ovens, George Foreman grills and any NON-UL, un-listed approved appliances.
