Edward A. Williamson, Ph.D.

Dr. Edward A. Williamson came to Drury University in 1999 after three years of teaching at the Summersville, MO R-2 School and four years of teaching at the Raymondville, MO R-7 School. During his public school teaching career, he taught many different subjects at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. He holds a Missouri teaching certificate for Elementary grades 1-8. During his doctoral work he was involved in several projects at the University of Missouri-Columbia designed to enhance the use of technology in the teaching process. His doctoral dissertation investigated the relationships of student self-esteem, school size, and student academic achievement in Missouri public high schools. His research interests include social capital as it relates to student performance in school, small and rural schools, sociological and philosophical foundations of pedagogy, technology issues in education, social justice issues in education and the liberal arts in teacher preparation. He teaches educational foundation courses and graduate courses at the St. Robert campus and online. He currently serves as the program advisor for the MAT (Master of Arts in Teaching) program at Drury University and as the St. Robert campus point of contact for the elementary, middle school and secondary emphasis areas of the M.Ed. program. He attended the Academy for Developmentally Centered Education at Yale University, March 20-24, 2000, and the George Washington Carver Life and Legacy Symposium at Iowa State University, April 23, 2014. Dr. Williamson has presented at many state, regional and national conferences. During the spring 2015 semester, he was on sabbatical working at the George Washington Carver National Monument in Diamond, MO. He is a member of the Carver Birthplace Association, Missouri Prairie Foundation, and the AAUP.
