This is for all Pell Grant students or military families (see as defined below).
The Gilman Scholarship will be discussed and how to approach the three essays. There will be a study abroad fair Sept. 11 in FSC from 4-6 p.m.

Pell Grant students,
~would you like to study abroad?
~how’s your GPA? (no GPA is required for this award, but some evidence of being a good student helps)
~do you have a resume that is up to date and shows active leadership and involvement?
~are you passionate about culture and global citizenship? ~can you design an interesting service project?
~can you link this trip to a future career? How can this experience help you?
~have you picked out a Drury program for students abroad or an affiliated program or internship?
If you have strong answers to these questions and are a Pell Grant student and U.S. citizen, you may consider an application for the Gilman Scholarship. It’s due in early October so you need to start now. More information is below.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program (study abroad)
The largest undergraduate scholarship program for students with financial needs providing up to $5,000 towards credit-bearing study abroad or international internship programs. Funded by the U.S. Department of State, over 3,000 finalists are chosen to immerse themselves in another country and promote mutual understanding and respect. This award encourages underrepresented groups in education and small and rural towns to apply. First-generation students are given preference in the application, as are veterans and those who have never traveled abroad. In 2021, 70% of the Gilman scholar recipients came from small rural towns. Successful applicants demonstrate how the experience will benefit their future career goals and/or articulate how the experience will help them. Gilman scholars write a Community Impact Essay that describes how they will continue to serve as cultural ambassadors for the program upon their return, relating their experiences to others in a campus service project. In 2021, 42 Gilman Scholars were accepted into the Fulbright scholarship program.
