Charvis Harrell’s (Abasa Aziz ibn Horace) installation Little Brother of War: The Games We Play is an examination of decay deeply inspired by the “Gutai Art Manifesto” of Joshihara Jiro as “art that is free from conventional formalism”. In this exhibition, America’s original sport will be used as a metaphor to describe the tribalism and constant polarization tearing our country apart; as opposing sides face off resulting in an atmosphere that is absurd as it is appropriate.
Harrell explores social issues in the hope to inspire constructive dialog that can bring about growth and change. His work encourages having difficult conversations so we can identify the challenges that keep us separated.
