Drury University Shewmaker Communication Department is the launch pad for various careers and post-graduate opportunities. Drury’s program immerses students in creative experiences inside and outside the classroom through internships, student-run media, and study-abroad opportunities. Students gain a solid understanding of communication’s foundational theories and concepts and then apply those ideas in real-world contexts through hands-on projects and partnerships with local businesses and organizations. Many of our courses connect students directly with clients, creating impactful work that continues to thrive beyond the classroom.
With this strong foundation, graduates excel at Fortune 500 companies, nonprofits, news organizations, and advertising and public relations agencies. Others pursue advanced studies in master’s programs and law schools around the globe. After bouncing around from major to major, I eventually found my home in the Communication Department. The professors I’ve had are interactive with their students and go above and beyond to make sure we excel in our courses. They also care about our futures enough to help us find beneficial yet fun internships that will help us secure a job after graduation. I admire their willingness to work with students to ensure they graduate on time! The opportunities I’ve been provided through the Comm family make me proud to be a student at Drury University.
