Christopher (Kit) Sechler is Chief Legal Officer and Secretary of the John Hancock Group of Funds, and Vice President for John Hancock Investment Management. Kit heads the John Hancock Investments legal department and manages the legal support provided to over 200 John Hancock investment products, including mutual funds, ETFs, closed-end funds and managed accounts, helping investors and retirement savers prepare for a secure financial future. He earned his B.A. from Drury in Psychology and Criminology in 1995 before heading to the Boston University School of Law, where he earned his J.D. in 1999 and was recognized as a G. Joseph Tauro Distinguished Scholar.
While at Drury, he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. His family has a long history with Drury, including his grandfather, Willard Lee Graves ’32, who served for decades as a professor of mathematics and was the second Chairman of the Mathematics Department, and Julie Graves Guillebeau ’70, who served 20 years as Drury’s Director of Public Relations. Kit has also had several aunts, uncles and cousins who graduated from Drury, including his brother Tom Guillebeau ’99, and sister Elizabeth Brooks, ’04.
After law school, Kit took a job in Boston with the international law firm Dechert LLP, and spent five years as Vice President and Counsel with Eaton Vance Management before joining John Hancock in 2009. He resides outside of Boston with his wife of twenty-one years, Katy, and their 2 children, Jack (15) and Lucie (18).
