FINANCIAL AID

Financial Aid Checklist

November 2009:

• Begin scholarship search by checking with high school counselor, employer, parents’ employers and Drury admission representative.
• Make notes of the deadlines and materials required for each scholarship.

January 2010:

• Apply Early! Pick up Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) worksheet from Drury Financial Aid Office or apply online at http:// www.fafsa.ed.gov .
• Complete FAFSA online at http:// www.fafsa.ed.gov . Use your parents' income tax return from 2009. Follow the instructions carefully and do not leave any blanks (use "0" or "n/a").
• Missouri residents should note the FAFSA form must be received by the processor by April 1, 2010, to be considered for the Access Missouri Grant.

February 2010:

• Double-check scholarship deadlines.
• Make sure your completed application for admission has been received by Drury by February 1, 2010, in order to be considered for all available funds.

March 2010:

• If you filed your FAFSA in January you should have received the Student Aid Report (SAR).
• You should receive your financial aid award letter from Drury mid-March.

April 2010:

• Your SAR should be received at Drury by April 1.

June 2010:

• If at any time your financial situation changes drastically from what you filed on the FAFSA, contact the Drury Financial Aid Office. We may be able to help you if funds are still available.

Described here are financial aid programs available to students who demonstrate financial need. Financial need is determined by filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You should complete the FAFSA and submit it online at http:// www.fafsa.ed.gov as soon as possible after January 1. Read instructions carefully. The application is the cornerstone of your financial aid search.

The financial assistance application process takes 4 to 6 weeks. Make sure you answer all questions carefully, completely and accurately to avoid delays in the processing that might affect the amount you receive. Note: all students applying for financial aid must have a social security number. You must file the FAFSA every year in order to receive financial aid.

APPLY EARLY - RECOMMENDED DEADLINE IS MARCH 15
We cannot emphasize this point strongly enough. The earlier your forms are processed, the more possibilities you will have for financial assistance. None of the financial assistance programs reserve funds for late applicants.

AM I ELIGIBLE?
The information you and your family provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to determine the expected financial contribution (EFC) your family can make toward your college expenses. This figure is based on a formula determined by the federal government each year. The difference between your (EFC) and the estimated total cost of Drury is the amount of financial aid for which you should be eligible.

HOW TO APPLY FOR NEED-BASED ASSISTANCE:

1. Start early. Funds are limited for many of these programs, and preference is given to applications received earliest.
2. You must apply for admission and be formally admitted in good academic standing to Drury as a full-time student to be considered a candidate for financial aid.
3. Fill out and return the Drury Scholarship & Financial Aid Application.
4. Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). As a result of filing the FAFSA, you will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the processing agency.
5. After Drury receives a copy of the SAR, you will receive a notice of award of financial aid. The award process will begin in March. If you are eligible, the award notice includes a list of the types and amounts of scholarships and/or aid that can be offered to you. This award notice will include all scholarship and need-based aid you are eligible for and will be adjusted as updated information is received.
By accepting this award, the monies offered to you will be reserved should you decide to attend Drury. Accepting this award does not obligate you to attend Drury.

FINANCIAL AID AWARD NOTIFICATION:

Beginning in March, printed award packages will be mailed to your home address explaining your initial Financial Aid package, awards and how to accept or decline your package online. Admitted students receive a student ID number and PIN number, which will allow you access to your financial aid package online. Your ID and PIN numbers will be provided in your Drury Acceptance Packet.

FINANCIAL AID POLICY FOR SPRING SEMESTER
Availability of need-based assistance is limited for students who enroll in the spring semester. Those who qualify may receive the Federal Pell Grant and Federal Stafford Loan. Application should be made well in advance of the beginning of classes.

Grants are gifts of money. They are based on financial need, and you never have to repay them.

Federal Pell Grant
Pell is a federal grant program. Pell Grant is an entitlement program with grants ranging from $400 to $4,710 per year.

Federal SEOG (Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant)
SEOG is also a federal grant program. These grants are for students who could not otherwise continue their education. Qualified students can receive from $200 to $1000 per year.

Access Missouri Financial Assistance Program
Administered by the state of Missouri, this need-based program is determined by the student’s expected family contribution (EFC) as calculated by the FAFSA. You must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of Missouri, a full-time student (12 semester hours), and have an EFC of $12,000 per year or less. The FAFSA must be received by the federal processing agency by April 1, 2009. Renewable with a 2.5 cumulative GPA.

College Work-Study

Federal CWSP (College Work-Study Program)
This federally funded program provides on-campus jobs for students who demonstrate financial need. Under this program you may be asked to work 4 to 12 hours per week depending on the amount of your work-study award. College work-study awards range from $600 to $3,000 per year.

LOANS

Federal Perkins Loan

This is a low interest (5%) loan made directly to you through Drury. Drury will determine how much a student may receive from the program based on the availability of these funds at Drury, the amount of other aid the student is receiving and the student’s financial need as determined by filing the FAFSA. Students may borrow up to $15,000 for a four-year education.

Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP)

The Subsidized Federal Stafford Loan is based on financial need determined by a federal formula. A loan is “subsidized” when the government pays the interest for you during the following periods:

• while you are enrolled in school at least half-time;
• during the six-month grace period after you stop attending school at least half-time;
• during periods of authorized deferment.

The Unsubsidized Federal Stafford Loan is not based on financial need and is available to all students regardless of income. Because this loan is not subsidized by the government, the student is responsible for all interest which accrues during in-school, grace and deferment periods. You may choose to make interest payments while in school or you may defer (and capitalize) the interest until repayment.

The maximum undergraduate Stafford aggregate limit is $31,000.

The Parent Plus Loan is a loan taken out by the parent. The parent is responsible for repayment, which may begin within 60 days after the funds are fully disbursed, unless an in-school deferment is granted by the lender. Parent Plus Loans require an application that must be certified by the Financial Aid Office. Contact the office with requests for applications and further information.

CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT

A wide variety of campus jobs are available. Inquiries may be directed to the Human Resources Office. An internship program is available that provides valuable experience linked to the educational development of the student. These assignments may be made as a part of a financial aid package and/or upon application by the student or nomination by a college department head.
