Dr. Ilene Gipson graduated from Drury in 1966 with a biology degree and earned a Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Arkansas in 1973. She currently is senior scientist at Schepens Eye Research Institute in Boston and professor of ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Gipson is a widely published author on the eye and its diseases, gaining national and international recognition for her research.
Gipson has served on review panels for the National Institutes of Health and as officer in several vision research societies. She earned the merit award from the National Eye Institute/National Institutes of Health, an Alcon Award, and was named the Ocular Surface Scholar at Schepens Eye Research Institute.
She received an honorary doctor of science degree from Drury University for her academic and scientific accomplishments and mentoring of students.
Gipson is married to Dr. Henry Keutmann, an endocrine scientist at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
